Students are advised to use credit cards to help them efficiently manage their finances, but many fall into the trap of wracking up huge bills by spending excessively on clothes, drinks and socialising.
According to research from Halifax, student debt is likely to be higher in Scotland than anywhere else in the UK, simply because more youngsters from north of the border have credit cards.
44% of students in Scotland have a credit card, which is well above the UK average of 37%.
