Smokers in the UK are being urged to stop and not just for health reasons but also to reduce the amount of personal debt they have.
Cooperative Insurance have found that the average smoker spends around £2,000 a year on cigarettes, which is money that could be used to repay debts or start a savings account.
The group also calculated that the average smoker will spend £121,000 on tobacco in their lifetime which could be the difference between living comfortably and living with serious debt.
