Personal debt outweighs the GDP

The amount of personal debt that UK consumers carry is more than the gross domestic product (GDP) of the entire nation.

Whilst the GDP is at £1,410 billion, total UK personal debt is believed to be at £1,444 billion.

Although this is not a serious problem for the economy, as much of the debt is covered by housing stock, it does highlight the continuing debt problems that the UK is experiencing.
