The government's pre-budget report which announced a cut in VAT has been welcomed by the LITRG who campaign for better policies for low income households.
The Low Incomes Tax Reform Group say that the VAT cut can ease the burden of Christmas spending for people struggling to stay clear of debt.
However, the group did add that low income households might not enjoy as much of a benefit as higher earning families. "The more a person spends, the more they benefit from the fall in the standard rate. Those whose highest proportionate spend is on food or children's clothing may not benefit."
