Single parents along with separated and divorced people in the UK are statistically the most likely to fall into serious amount of debt.
Just over 11.6% of people in a new study, filing for bankruptcy stated divorce or separation as the main reason for their mounting debt problems.
John Porter, senior counsellor for The Debt Counsellors commented, "As many as 18.4 per cent of those seeking help for their debts blamed their problems on the fact they were either divorced, separated or single parents and the sheer level of the debts involved shows there is a risk of serious problems and bankruptcy for people in those situations."
The amount of people filing for bankruptcy in the UK is rising every year and it’s widely expected that over 100,000 people will do so by the end of 2006.
