With more couples than ever in the UK breaking up because of debt problems, research in Lancaster has shown that relationships where finances become an issue are often doomed to fail.
The local charity Christians Against Poverty found that 23% of couples in Lancaster struggling with debt will eventually break up because of it.
A spokesperson for CAP commented, "We're here to help anyone who feels trapped by debt. We cannot explain the relief we see on clients' faces when they realise that their problems are not too big to overcome and we aim to offer hope to those in desperation."
